DC vs MI: Unbeaten Jemimah Rodrigues scored an elegant half-century while Delhi Capitals won their second game of the WPL 2026 season, beating Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in a tricky chase in Vadodara. The victory took DC from the bottom of the table into a tight mid-table race, with four teams now locked on four points behind table-toppers RCB.
Toss and Pitch Conditions Set the Tone
Jemimah Rodrigues signalled DC’s intent by opting to bowl first, even before the toss announcement was completed, after Harmanpreet Kaur had called incorrectly. It was a call fully vindicated as the sluggish Vadodara pitch proved once again difficult for batters to get going early on.
MI struggled badly in the PowerPlay, slumping to 23/2, even lower than the previous lowest PowerPlay score recorded at the venue this season.
Marizanne Kapp Dismantles MI’s Top Order
With the new ball, Marizanne Kapp performed brilliantly by taking one wicket and only giving up five runs during three overs bowled in the Powerplay. Delhi Capitals put MI under constant pressure after dismissing both of their openers early.
Rodrigues extended Kapp’s spell by continuing to give her the ball in the hopes of taking more wickets, however both Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt were able to survive the onslaught and start rebuilding their innings through consistent batting.
MI Fight Back Through Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet
Although Kapp’s 14 Dot ball spell was complete, MI were able to regroup after she left the field. MI’s success with their new middle-order batsmen, Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet, came largely from the two batsmen working together; increasing their scoring rate by being smart with how they ran between the wickets and targeting boundary balls.
Even though DC were constantly rotating their spinners MI found a way to push through six runs per over. Harmanpreet’s wicket brought to an end the important 78-run partnership, but Sciver-Brunt continued on her way, adding runs quickly to the MI total.
Sciver-Brunt’s Fifty Pushes MI Past 150
Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 50 runs off 33 balls, matching Meg Lanning for most half-centuries (11) in WPL history. Late-game heroics from Sciver-Brunt and company helped propel Mumbai Indians to an incredible total of 154 runs after losing five wickets; Sciver-Brunt’s final score was 65 runs from 45 deliveries, which included a six on the very last ball of the match.
DC vs MI Chase: Explosive Start by Lee and Shafali
Delaware County began its chase for victory swiftly, as both Lizelle Lee (South Africa) and Shafali Verma (India) were very aggressive during the first six overs; they had combined for an incredible total of 57 runs with no outs when the end of the sixth over arrived.
The two openers finished with 13 boundaries combined (7 by Verma and 6 from Lee), which allowed the Delaware County team to easily exceed their target for the first six overs of play.
Middle-Overs Slowdown Brings MI Back
After the PowerPlay, the game tilted away from DC when they could not hit a boundary for four consecutive overs. Vaishnavi Sharma dismissed Shafali, while Lee experienced a controversial stumping after a lengthy row, but the stumping was ultimately upheld as she had not grounded her bat before stepping into the line.
Jemimah Rodrigues kept her composure under pressure
Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt partnered tentatively, with the pressure mounting on DC to find runs towards the end of the innings. Wolvaardt had bad luck with a running out, as Rodrigues hit a shot that was redirected off of the stumps before she was able to reach her teammate’s end and run for the other side of the wicket, but Rodrigues instantly responded by hitting a huge hit over the fence.
Jemimah Rodrigues Finishes in Style
Rodrigues seized control of the last few overs of play, hitting some important boundaries that cut the target down to just 14 runs from 12 deliveries. In the final act of poetic justice, DC clinched victory against MI’s top performer Sciver-Brunt – with Rodrigues adding a four to her score before Marizanne Kapp hitting the winning six.
