Did you know what happens if a referee gets injured during a WWE game?

If a WWE referee gets during a match, the WWE has a protocol that first the referee will receive medical attention. The protocol states that ensuring the safety of the referee will be the first priority rather than continuing the match. Only after surveillance of the injury is done the match is continued.

If the injury is severe the referee is looked after by the medical near the ringside. In case the injured referee is unable to continue officiating the game then a replacement referee is called. When the replacement referee is assigned of officiating the match he is briefed about the match and then only he takes over the duty of officiating in that match.

Even though an injury to the referee is a rare occurrence in the WWE it has happened over the years where some referees suffered serious injuries.

WWE Referee Tom Castor

WWE NXT on April 25th, 2019 was going to be a memorable event Tyler Breeze was returning to NXT. During the main event match between the Velveteen Dream and Tyler Breeze referee, Tom Castor suffered an injury to his leg.

Castor was at the receiving end of a wrong superkick which resulted in him falling down awkwardly and breaking his ankle.

Former NXT referee, Dave Wuertz came into the ring to continue the match. Wuertz then he received a ‘Beauty Shot’ finisher from Tyler Breeze. This meant that already injured Castor had to take the duties of referee for the match till the end.

When Wuertz realized the severity of Castor he threw the ‘X’ sign. The ‘X’ sign in WWE is used by referees or other officials to state that a serious injury has taken place.

After the Castor successfully ended the match he was taken to the hospital. WWE Superstar Ricochet tweeted about the incident and said, “Let me know if there’s anything I can do!”
