Former England Cricketer Nasser Hussain Calls on England to Spoil India’s Party at ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Former England cricketer Nasser Hussain calls on the England team to disrupt India’s winning streak at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Nasser Hussain, a former England cricketer, is encouraging the England team, led by Jos Buttler, to disrupt India’s triumphant streak and hand them their first defeat in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023, despite England’s ninth position on the points table, putting them at the brink of elimination from the semi-finals race.
Hussain still sees England as a formidable team and believes they must reclaim their strength and potential.
Hussain expressed his thoughts in a column for The Daily Mail, stating, “The players must take responsibility for this situation. While I’m not one for clichés like ‘playing for the badge,’ this is precisely what England must do now. When they face India in Lucknow on Sunday, they should aim to spoil India’s party. It’s essential for them to remind India and the world of their cricketing greatness, both past and present.”

Following England’s heavy loss to Sri Lanka, Hussain questioned England’s approach to white-ball cricket and called on the players to take individual responsibility, suggesting that it might be the end of an era for the English team.
He remarked to Sky Sports, “We are talking about some of the greatest white-ball players in our history, but this tournament has proven to be exceptionally challenging for some of them. I wouldn’t have made changes to the team before the tournament, but now I would seriously contemplate changes, as it appears to mark the end of an era.”
Nonetheless, Hussain acknowledged the significant achievements of the England side, recognizing their brilliant white-ball cricket over the past six or seven years.
India, undefeated with five victories in five matches, is the sole team yet to be defeated in the World Cup. They are currently second on the points table, trailing South Africa, and have demonstrated exceptional clinical performance.
England will face India, the tournament’s host, on Sunday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
