Highest Total In T20 World Cup Knockouts: During the semi-final match between India and England of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, India witnessed an incredible batting performance that saw them become the first team to score over 250 runs within the T20 World Cup knockout stages.

Suryakumar Yadav captained the Indian side to a massive 253/7 after having batted for 20 overs, breaking T20 World Cup tournament records. The previous highest score in the knockouts of the T20 World Cup was 205/4, achieved by the West Indies cricket team against the Australia national cricket team in the 2012 T20 World Cup semi-final match.

India’s Record-Breaking Batting Display in Mumbai

The India team had a record-setting batting performance against their knock-out round opponent (the 255 runs scored by the India team is only surpassed by three other teams in all T20 matches) when they scored 255 runs in a T20 match in Mumbai. What makes this performance even more remarkable is the fact that even a score 47 runs lower would have been a record.

The performance was a turning point for the defending champions, who had been searching for their best performance in the tournament so far.

India Break Six-Hitting Record in T20 World Cup 2026

The dominance of India in the 2026 T20 World Cup has been demonstrated by their incredible power hitting.

India has smashed 88 sixes in the tournament.

The former record of 76 sixes was achieved by the West Indies cricket team in the tournament.

In their semi-final match against the England cricket team, India hit 19 sixes, which was a record for the highest number of sixes hit in a T20 World Cup match.

The incredible power hitting spree of the team has resulted in the highest score in the knockout matches of the T20 World Cup.

India’s Dominance in High-Scoring T20 Matches

The 253-run total also underscored India’s increasing prowess in high-scoring matches in T20 cricket. This was India’s 6th instance of crossing 250 runs in T20 cricket. No other international team has achieved this feat so many times.

Among all forms of T20 cricket played worldwide, only Sunrisers Hyderabad has achieved this feat five times in tournaments like the Indian Premier League.

Among international cricket teams, the West Indies cricket team and Zimbabwe cricket team have achieved this feat three times each by crossing 250 runs in matches played by them.

Sanju Samson Sets New Indian Six-Hitting Record

Sanju Samson was another player in the semi-final who impressed. Despite playing only four matches in the 2026 T20 World Cup tournament, Sanju Samson has already smashed 16 sixes in the tournament. This is now a record for an Indian player in terms of sixes in a single tournament.

As a result of this success, he has set a new best for most sixes (16) hit by any player in a single tournament; breaking Rohit Sharma’s record of fifteen from the 2024 T20 World Cup.
