IND vs ENG: India won the fourth T20I against England by a thrilling 19-run margin to seal the series in Pune. The team thus took an unassailable lead of 3-1 in the series. India had a bumpy ride to set a challenging target of 182 for England, which the latter couldn’t chase, despite some notable performances from two of their batsmen. Important contributions from Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and debutant Harshit Rana helped India win the game.

It seemed a masterstroke from England when they decided to bowl first after winning the toss. They had India on the ropes early, reducing them to a precarious 12 for 3 and later to 79 for 5. It seemed an easy chase for England, but the middle-order revival ensured that India could muster up a respectable total.

Saqib Mahmood, making a mark in the series, sent down a maiden over in the second over itself and picked the crucial wickets of India’s top-order batsmen. Early wickets sent the Indian team into a state of panic but the fight of Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh kept the ship afloat. Sharma, scoring 29, showed intent and aggression, whereas Rinku Singh scored 30 runs. Their partnership stabilized the middle overs.

Dube and Pandya’s Match-Winning Contributions

When the two young middle-order batsmen were dismissed, all-rounders Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya took over and led India to a competitive total. Both players played explosive innings, scoring 53 runs each, helping India reach 181 in their allotted overs.

Dube was playing his first match of the series for the team and made a quickfire 53 off 34 balls, accompanied by seven fours and two sixes as he peppered the boundary. His good play ensured that India had a fighting total. Hardik Pandya also was quick on his feet just like it is in his trademark style as he scored 53 runs off 30 balls with four boundaries and four sixes. His scoring at the end meant India could build towards a big total and set a total that would prove a challenge for England.

Harshit Rana: A Debut to Remember

The turn of Dube’s match went sour when he was hit on the helmet by a bouncer. He would not be well enough to return, and Dube made way for concussion substitute Harshit Rana. Rana was impactful from the word go. On his T20I debut, Rana bowled an impressive spell, taking 3 wickets for 33 runs in four overs. His victims were the key English batters Liam Livingstone, Jabak Bethell, and Jamie Overton. The spell by Rana helped India tighten their grip on the game, making him the star of the match.

Spinners Bishnoi and Chakravarthy Take Control

While Rana sparkled with the ball, it was India’s spinners that ensured England never picked up momentum while chasing. Ravi Bishnoi was again handy; he picked up 3 wickets for 28 runs from his four overs, continuing his good series. Rana now needed to play sensibly and make the most of a crucial partnership with him at one end.

The other frontline spinner of India, Varun Chakravarthy, accompanied Bishnoi with a neat spell of 2 wickets for 29 runs. The consistency and control by Chakravarthy kept the English batsmen on their toes and took away most of the scoring opportunities from the hands of the Englishmen through his two big wickets, including those of Harry Brook and Ben Duckett.

England’s Aggressive Start but Weak Middle Order

The English chase began in style with the openers, Harry Brook and Ben Duckett, taking it aggressively. Brook smashed a blistering knock of 51 runs off 26 balls with five fours and two sixes. Duckett too was aggressive as he added 39 runs off 19 balls, which consisted of seven fours and one six. The two put on their 62-run partnership without losing a single wicket in the powerplay and, at that point in time, looked pretty good for an England side that would be in the box seat to chase the target.

But in the later part of the game, England was not able to keep up with the momentum. Six of their batsmen failed to score double figures, and two were out for ducks. England’s failure to build any big partnership with the help of good bowling by India meant that the chase for England was cut short. Despite Brook and Duckett’s excellent starts, the failure of the middle and lower order to create a consistent partnership ultimately cost them the match and the series.

India Takes an Unassailable Lead in the Series

With this victory, India clinched a 3-1 lead in the five-match T20I series and effectively sealed the series with one game left. Key performances of Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and Harshit Rana with both bat and ball supported India’s victory. The Indian bowlers, spearheaded by the spinners, kept a tight leash on the game once England gained an initial ascendency and together ensured a 19-run win.

India Clinches the Series with All-Round Brilliance

The great fightback India put in Pune T20I is a testament to their team’s strength and depth. They fought back so hard after early blows in the batting. Dube and Pandya gave them the required push. Then the bowling unit, with the new ball burst by Harshit Rana and later with the spinners, batted straight down India’s line and helped India successfully defend the target. England, on the other hand, paid the price for their inability to build partnerships and capitalize on their strong start. With a 3-1 lead, India has already clinched the series, and they will look to further assert their dominance in the final match of the series.
