In contrast to PBKS, which has a net run-rate of -0.472, MI has an NRR of -0.373. The Gujarat Titans (GT) are still in first place with 12 points after the first washout of the season in Lucknow, while the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are in second and third place, respectively, with 11 points each after 10 games.

With 10 points, the fourth- and fifth-place Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are tied with MI and PBKS. Six teams are competing for three positions in the race to advance to the Playoffs stage, with the defending champions GT currently seen as the favourite to finish first.

After scoring 30 off 20 balls against MI on Wednesday night, PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan, who is making his comeback from injury, moved up to 10th place on the Orange Cap race. Dhawan has scored 292 runs in his last 7 games.

Ishan Kishan, the MI opener who scored the game-winning 75 off 41 balls against PBKS, climbed up to position 12 as well. The highest run-scorer for MI this season, Kishan now has 286 runs from 9 matches with two fifties, surpassing Tilak Varma, who has 274 runs from 9 matches.

With 414 runs in 10 games and as the CSK opener, Devon Conway is currently in third place, he was unable to increase his total because the match against the Lucknow Super Giants was called off.

Piyush Chawla rises to 4th in Purple Cap race

Piyush Chawla, a seasoned leg-spinner for MI, maintained his excellent IPL 2023 form, taking 2/29 in 4 overs even as PBKS posted a mammoth 214-run total. With 15 kills in 9 games, Chawla now shares fourth place in the Orange Cap standings with GT leg-spinner Rashid Khan and RCB’s Mohammed Siraj.

Along with Tushar Deshpande of CSK, who has 17 wickets in 10 games, GT pacer Mohammad Shami continues to hold the Purple Cap with 17 wickets in 9 matches. Arshdeep Singh of PBKS, who has 16 wickets in 10 games, is currently in third place.
