The Delhi Capitals are flying high in IPL 2025. With five wins from six games, they are sitting right at the top of the points table. Under Axar Patel’s leadership, the team is not just winning matches they’re also enjoying their time off the field. The good vibes in the squad are clearly visible, and a recent light-hearted moment proved it.
Before their big game against Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals had a practice session at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. During the session, something funny happened and it had everyone laughing.
Former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who is also DC’s mentor, was having a casual chat with GT skipper Shubman Gill. In a playful mood, Pietersen asked Gill, “Can you explain what a mentor does?”
Just then, KL Rahul, Delhi’s wicketkeeper, jumped into the conversation and replied with a cheeky line:
Thanks KL, now we know what a mentor does 😂 pic.twitter.com/JXWSVJBfQS

“Mentor is someone who goes to Maldives for two week, mid-season.”
This unexpected joke made everyone laugh, including Pietersen himself. Delhi Capitals even posted the clip on social media with the caption:
“Thanks KL, now we know what a mentor does.”
The Story Behind the Joke
For those wondering this wasn’t just a random comment. Pietersen had gone on a short trip to the Maldives on April 5, right after Delhi defeated Chennai Super Kings. He missed the next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 10. So Rahul’s joke was a funny take on that vacation and fans loved it!
