It’s not every day MotoGP fans wake up to news that flips the paddock on its head, but that’s exactly what happened after the wild opening lap at Mandalika. Marc Marquez, fresh from sealing his seventh world championship just a round before, suffered a high-speed collision in Indonesia that has sidelined him for at least the next two rounds. Yes, current-day MotoGP legend won’t be lighting up Phillip Island or Sepang, and that has left the grid and the grandstands just a little quieter than usual.

What Happened In Indonesia?

So, how did we even get to this? The start to the Indonesian Grand Prix was as chaotic as it gets. Marco Bezzecchi, starting from pole but quickly shuffled back after a nightmare launch, was desperate to recover places immediately. Just a couple of corners later, he tried initiating a move up the inside and tangled wheels with Marquez’s Ducati.

Both riders were tossed into the gravel in a cloud of dust that left fans holding their breath. Marc Marquez, who’s never really had much luck at Mandalika, was visibly in pain, clutching his right shoulder and eventually needing help off track. Bezzecchi, to his credit, walked away with bruises and handed out a genuine apology on the spot.

But then came the bombshell from Ducati: medical checkups in Madrid revealed a fractured collarbone and damaged ligaments in Marquez’s right shoulder, the same one that’s already caused him sleepless nights since 2020. No surgery needed this time, but doctors have ruled out any heroics.

It’s rest, recovery, and a strict rehab plan, meaning Marc Marquez will be off the bike for both the Australian and Malaysian rounds. He’s gutted to miss Phillip Island, a track he’s owned in the past, and Sepang, though not a personal favourite, still stings to skip for a reigning champ. Ducati, meanwhile, is expected to slot Michele Pirro onto the Desmosedici in his absence.
