Mumbai Indians Announce New Fielding Coach Before IPL 2025

Following the underwhelming experience of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, it is looking forward to an all-new season in IPL 2025. With a poor performance last season, the team finished 10th and is hoping to come back strong in the upcoming season. For this, the team has made drastic changes in its coaching staff, including hiring a new fielding coach.

In a desperate attempt to change things around, MI took a bold decision to sack their long-time captain Rohit Sharma and hand over the reins to Hardik Pandya. Coaching Changes: Mahela Jayawardene Returns

MI has been changing key parts of its coaching staff in preparation for the IPL 2025 season. The team’s former head coach from 2017 to 2022 and a three-time IPL winner is Mahela Jayawardene, who is back as a replacement for Mark Boucher. Fielding Coach: Carl Hopkinson

During this time, Hopkinson mentored his players, resulting in achieving much success for his country; England emerged victorious at two ICC trophies, that are the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2022.

Hopkinson has also worked with England’s Under-19 squad, further strengthening his credentials. Before transitioning into coaching, he had a solid playing career, featuring in 64 first-class matches, 92 List A games, and 28 T20s for Sussex. His expertise is expected to make a positive impact on Mumbai Indians’ fielding unit.

Mumbai Indian’s Strategy for IPL 2025

In the lead-up to the 2025 season, MI has gone strategic in trying to break the four-year drought they are experiencing for the IPL trophy. Before the auction for the IPL 2025, the franchise kept five core players: Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. The team would bank on their experience and talent as they build upon this core group of players.

Not many teams have made as much impact with signings during the two-day mega auction as MI has to bolster their team. Trent Boult has been called back to support Bumrah in the bowling department, which was one of the key factors behind MI’s success during IPL 2020.
