ODI Cricket Partnership Records and Statistics – Highest Partnerships by Wicket
Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels have the second-most wicket-to-wicket partnerships in ODI history with 372. Read to know more about the cricket records
In cricket, some squads lean more heavily on their bowling attack, others on their batting, while others strike a good balance between the two. When the stakes are as high as they are at the World Cup, it’s crucial to get off to a strong start. Over the years and tournament iterations, specific teams have benefited from strategic alliances that gave them a head start or guaranteed a consistent revenue stream. Their effort was only successful with the help of these alliances. Although these two played their hearts out, they ultimately fell short in the match.

372, Chris Gayle (215) and Marlon Samuels (133*)
West Indies faced Zimbabwe in their 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup pool B match at Canberra. Dwayne Smith was bowled for a duck in the second ball, forcing Chris Gayle to join Marlon Samuels at 0/1. West Indies batted 50 overs. Chris Gayle blasted 16 sixes, and 215 runs off 147 balls before being removed on the last ball of the innings. He would have set a match record for maximums. Marlon Samuels hit a calm 133, not out in 156 balls. West Indies scored 372/2 with the greatest ODI partnership of 372 runs by Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels. The Windies won by 89 runs (D/L).
365, John Campbell (179) and Shai Hope (170)
John Campbell and Shai Hope opened the batting for the West Indies. After the West Indies had amassed 365 runs, Ireland finally managed to get their first wicket in the 48th over. John Campbell scored 179 runs in 137 balls, including 15 fours and six sixes, while Shai Hope scored 170 runs in 152 balls, including 22 fours and two sixes. This record was reached in 2019 against Ireland in a tri-nation series and is the second-highest partnership between these two heavy hitters, leading West Indies to a mammoth total of 381-3. The West Indies total was their second highest in ODI history.
258, Darren Bravo (124) and Denesh Ramdin (169)
Darren Bravo and wicketkeeper Ramdin of the West Indies hold the record for the greatest 3rd wicket partnership. After the early loss of Gayle and Simmons, the two talented batsmen took over and stabilized the innings before attacking spinner Abdul Razzaq and piling on the runs. Darren Bravo scored 124 runs off 127 balls, while Ramdin scored 169 runs off 121 balls. Bravo was finally dismissed with the score at 270/2, and the West Indies hit 338/7 after 50 overs before their innings crumbled. In 50 overs, Bangladesh could not get off to a good start and scored 247 for eight.
275*, Mohammad Azharuddin (153*) and Ajay Jadeja (116*)
In the 1998 Pepsi Triangular Series, Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja scored 275 runs together. Early in their innings, India lost Tendulkar, Laxman, and Ganguly, but both seasoned players assumed control. Azharuddin struck an unbeaten 153 off 150 deliveries, his highest score to date. Ajay Jadeja ably supported him with 116 runs off 121 balls, and India concluded with 301/3. Grant Flower’s century kept Zimbabwe in contention until the spinners stifled them, resulting in their final 32-run victory. Even after twenty years, this remains the greatest fourth-wicket partnership.
256*, David Miller (138*) and JP Duminy (115*)
In the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, David Miller and JP Duminy’s unbeaten stand of 256 helped South Africa to defeat Zimbabwe. Miller chose to assault the Zimbabwe bowling attack after the South Africans lost their openers, Du Plessis and De Villiers, early on. Duminy matched this performance with a magnificent hundred. Miller scored 138 runs off 92 balls, whereas Duminy scored 115 runs off 100 balls. In quest of 340, Zimbabwe fought valiantly but fell short by 280.
267*, Grant Elliott (104*) and Luke Ronchi (170*)
In this match, the partnership of Grant Elliot and Ronchi smashed numerous records. Ronchi concluded with the highest score for a No. 7 batter with 170 runs off 99 balls, while Elliot scored 104 runs off 96 balls. After an opening hiccup, New Zealand appeared to rebound, but they lost wickets quickly and were reduced to 93/5 when Ronchi came up to the plate. The remainder of the history needs to be more well-known. Sri Lanka was dismissed for 252 in response to 360, with only Dilshan being dismissed for 116.
177, Jos Buttler (129) and Adil Rashid (69)
England’s 408/9 in 50 overs against New Zealand was boosted by a 177-run stand from Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid. After an opening stumbles, Joe Root and skipper Morgan fell for 104 and 50, respectively. Adil Rashid joined Buttler at 202/6 after Stokes and Billings left. Then the improbable happened: the duo took the Kiwi bowlers on a ride, leaving only Trent Boult untouched. Buttler was removed for 129 off 77 balls at 379/7, while Rashid scored 69 off 50 at 394/9. England won big when the Kiwis were bowled out for 198.
