Pakistan Squad For SL vs PAK ODIs And T20I Tri-Series

PCB released the Pakistan Squad for the SL vs PAK limited-overs series coming. The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to exclude young batter Hasan Nawaz from both ODI and T20I squads.

This decision has come just days ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka and the T20I tri-series, which will feature Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe. Nawaz has been sent to play in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan’s premier domestic first-class competition.

No ODI Replacement, Fakhar Zaman Returns for T20Is

According to the official announcement, no replacement has been named for Hasan Nawaz in the ODI squad, while Fakhar Zaman has been recalled to the T20I squad.

The Pakistan vs Sri Lanka ODI series starts on November 11, with the T20I tri-series beginning on November 17 the first multi-team T20I tournament to be held in Pakistan.

Hasan Nawaz’s Recent Struggles Despite Bright Start

Hasan Nawaz first made headlines when he smashed a match-winning T20I hundred against New Zealand at Eden Park in just his third international appearance. His explosive hitting got him an extended run in the national side and a stellar PSL season in which he powered the Quetta Gladiators to the final, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer with a strike rate of over 162.

His form fell off a cliff in the last few months, though. Nawaz recorded five ducks in his first ten T20Is and scored in double figures only once in his last eight innings, averaging below seven. Poor shot selection, like a reckless charge against George Linde in an ODI against the West Indies, raised questions about his match awareness.

Selection Context: Pakistan’s Changing Middle-Order Strategy

The selection committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board seems to be selecting calmness and stability in the middle order of the Asia Cup 2025 knockout as they opted for Hussain Talat over Nawaz. Nawaz had been touted as a “power-hitter,” but the management seemed to be looking for a slightly higher level of consistency as Pakistan moves into a packed international schedule.
