Pooja Gehlot and Antim Panghal Advance to Bronze Medal Matches in Women’s Wrestling at Asian Games

Indian wrestlers Pooja Gehlot and Antim Panghal will vie for bronze medals at the Asian Games after semifinal challenges.

Indian wrestler Pooja Gehlot faced defeat against Japan’s Remina Yoshimoto, a two-time Asian Champion, in the women’s freestyle 50kg semifinal at the 19th Asian Games. As a result, Pooja will compete for the bronze medal in her category.

Remina Yoshimoto secured a win with technical superiority over the Indian wrestler. Pooja’s next challenge will be against Aktenge Keunimjaeva in the bronze medal match.

In the women’s 53kg category, Antim Panghal, a two-time reigning U20 champion, will also vie for the bronze medal. She will face Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Bolortuyaa Bat-Ochiryn.

Antim, who holds the title of reigning Asian Champion, reached the bronze medal bout through repechage after losing her quarterfinal match to Japan’s Akari Fujinami by fall. In the repechage, she received a bye to advance to the bronze medal contest.

In other wrestling action, Naveen won his Greco-Roman 130kg repechage match against Timothy Yu Loh of Singapore. Similarly, Mansi Ahlawat secured victory in the women’s 57kg freestyle repechage by defeating South Korea’s Jeongjae Bark. Both Naveen and Mansi will also compete for bronze medals later in the day.
