The Story of Reaching the IPL at a Young Age

Rasikh Salam Dar made his domestic cricket debut in 2018 and impressed everyone with his performances that very same year. Recognizing his pace bowling and skills, the Mumbai Indians signed him for the 2019 IPL season.

At the age of 17 years and 353 days, he made his IPL debut, thereby becoming one of the youngest players ever to represent the Mumbai Indians. This marked the biggest early breakthrough of his career.

Return After the Ban and a New Journey

In 2019, due to an age-related controversy, the BCCI banned Rasikh Salam Dar for two years—a decision that dealt a major blow to his career. At that time, he was in the nascent stages of his career, and this ruling proved to be an extremely difficult challenge for him to overcome.

He didn’t quit during the time of his suspension though; instead, he was able to make a remarkable return to local cricket after that. After 2018, he also made continual improvements to his game to start to re-establish himself with local teams such as Jammu and Kashmir until 2025.

After having a successful season playing with the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the 2025 IPL season, he decided it was time for him to start fresh in his domestic career. He has now moved to Baroda and is attempting to change the direction of his cricketing career by playing for his new team.

Rasikh Salam Dar has had an eventful career in the IPL over the years, starting from 2019 when he entered the IPL as a player of the Mumbai Indians to playing for the Delhi Capitals in 2023.

In 2022, he transitioned from the IPL to the KKR and did not receive many opportunities with KKR before becoming a member of the Delhi Capitals in 2023 and gaining notoriety through his performances, including his famous spell of 3/34 during 3 overs against the West Indies in the IPL.

Rasikh Salam Dar has been a member of Royal Challengers Bangalore since the 2025 IPL season, having started with them in 2026. In acquiring him for ₹6 million (approximately $800,000) in the 2025 IPL Mega Auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore have signed Dar as he moves towards becoming a premier performer in professional cricket.
