Finally putting an end to all sorts of speculations surrounding Rohit Sharma‘s future in international cricket, former India captain and world No. 1 ODI batsman has broken his silence over the rising whispers about his retirement from international cricket. Rohit announced in clear words that Rohit Sharma’s retirement is not what is immediately in his plans.

Rohit Sharma: “I Will Retire When the Time Feels Right”

Speaking candidly, Rohit Sharma denied the reports that have been circulating about his retirement from the sport. Speaking about retirement, Rohit Sharma said that retirement is a very personal issue and that the moment will only be right for him when the time comes. With his level of fitness still intact, Rohit Sharma expressed the desire to contribute.

Stellar 2025 Season Boosts Rohit’s Position

The year 2025 started extremely well in the ODI format for Rohit Sharma. He scored 650 runs in 14 outings, which included:

2 centuries

4 half centuries

This solid display by Sharma goes to show that he is indeed one of India’s most reliable batsmen, further shifting concerns over Rohit Sharma retirement.

Man of the Series Against Australia

Rohit Sharma performed at his best in the three-match ODI series played in October 2025 with Australia. His dominant play made him win the Player of the Series award.

Being part of this outstanding display enabled Rohit to reach another major milestone in his career to become the world No. 1 ODIs batsman for the first time ever!

Captaincy Shift Reignites Retirement Rumors

Before their tour to Australia, Rohit was taken off as the ODI captain of India, and this sparked discussion about his career with India. This is despite their success in the ICC Champions Trophy under his captaincy.

Although he had had mixed performances in certain international tours earlier, which had put more pressure on him, Rohit counteracted it in the best possible manner by scoring runs. This was followed by decent performances in the home series of South Africa, in which he scored two half-centuries.

Rohit Sharma’s Insightful Commentary on Retirement

Rohit will next appear playing for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. When reliving an experience in an event in Gurugram, Rohit talked about how he can compare his life to an airplane ride.

“The takeoff is tough,” he said. “But the moment you reach a certain level, the actual challenge is how you sustain yourself in the air. The landing,” as Rohit explained in the interview, “is something I do not wish to happen anytime soon. It is the timing of retirement which must be in the player’s domain,” he added.
