The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held its annual Naman Awards ceremony in Delhi on March 15, 2025. This awards ceremony honors achievements within Indian cricket and recognizes outstanding individual player performances from the 2025 season. The ceremony also recognised five different teams from India that won championships in ICC Events:
The men’s senior team for winning the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup
The women’s senior team for their historic 2025 Women’s World Cup victory
The Official Award Ceremonies For The U19 Mens Team 2026
The U19 Women’s Team 2025
Despite the joyous tone of these ceremonies, there were multiple significant organizational blunders made during each award ceremony that quickly attracted the attention of countless cricket fans across the country to criticize them.
Major Graphic Error During U19 Women’s Team Felicitation
A major error was made on the night when the U19 Women’s squad took to the stage to accept their award. The U19 squad, who were crowned 2025 U19 Women’s World Cup champions under the captaincy of Nikki Prasad, had their picture displayed incorrectly on the screen at the time of their introduction.
Instead of being presented with the correct screen and graphic that represented them as the 2025 U19 Women’s World Cup champions they had their award presentation photo displayed as the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup champions who were represented by the senior women’s squad lead by Harmanpreet Kaur. Fans quickly began to notice this error and share their reactions about how the event was being run on social media.
The screen behind has the Senior Team graphic of the World Cup 2025 win while the U19 are being felicitated!

Another Mistake By An Event Promoter: Shubman Gill was wrongly identified as the captain of the Indian team for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
If it's a mistake, it's a question mark on the professionalism of the telecast. It's a hygiene issue where basic things are not checked.
If it's a PR (I don't think so), it's an extremely poor attempt.

During a segment of Harsha Bhogle’s show, an additional error occurred.
During the interaction, three players from the victorious senior teams were invited to the stage:
Harmanpreet Kaur
Suryakumar Yadav
Shubman Gill
While introducing players, the event coordinators erroneously identified Shubman Gill as captain of the team that won the Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma was actually captain of that winning team and he was unavailable when the event occurred.
In response to the inaccurate caption, many fans criticized the presentation and claimed they were also incorrect about the identity (caption) of the captain for India’s Champions Trophy-winning team.
BCCI has finally deleted the post mentioning Shubman Gill as Champions Trophy winning captain.🤣

Shubman Gill Wins Polly Umrigar Award for Outstanding 2025 Season
Despite the strange mix-up at the awards, Shubman Gill was one of the biggest stars of the evening. The opening batsman received the Polly Umrigar Award for Men’s Cricketer of The Year in recognition of his consistently high level of play during 2025.
Gill had an exceptional year in all formats of cricket, finishing as India’s leading run-scorer for the year with:
1,764 runs in 35 matches
Average of 49
Seven centuries
India’s many major international triumphs during 2020 were heavily influenced by his continual ability to produce runs on a regular basis.
Social media reaction to errors at the Naman awards
Fans of cricket were quick to point out the numerous errors made at the BCCI Naman Awards when posting comments on social media sites. Many fans took issue with the use of incorrect graphics and mislabelled captions that appeared throughout the entire event.
While the ceremony aimed to celebrate India’s historic cricketing achievements, the blunders surrounding Shubman Gill and the U19 women’s team overshadowed parts of the evening.
