The first of the two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand will begin on September 18th in Galle. This opening Test match will consist of six days, including one rest day reintroduced on September 21. The decision is aligned with the “Presidential Election of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka”, stated an ICC release on Friday.
The second Test match is scheduled to be played at the same venue from September 26-30.

The two-match SL vs NZ Test series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand will be a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle and will commence on September 18th.
The SLC said in a media release: “The New Zealand Men’s National Team will tour Sri Lanka during September 2024 to play a two-match test series against the Sri Lanka Men’s National Team. Test matches are a part of the ICC World Test Championship Cycle of 2023–2025. The 21st of September will be a rest day of the 1st Test match owing to the Presidential Election of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.”

It has to be noted that this would be a rare occurrence in recent history, as it is the first time in over two decades that a Test match in Sri Lanka will span six days. The last incident occurred in Colombo against Zimbabwe in 2001, where a rest day was scheduled because of Poya Day, which is a full moon day.
