T20 World Cup: India register their 1st win in the tournament as they beat Afghanistan by 66 Runs
An excellent batting performance led them to put 210 Runs on the board which was the highest total in the ongoing 2021 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Afghanistan couldn’t chase this target down – as India beat them by 66 Runs.

The 33rd Match of the 2021 T20 World Cup was an India vs Afghanistan encounter played on Wednesday, 03 November 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

India’s dominating performance against Afghanistan leads them to win by 66 Runs
1st Innings – India put 210 Runs on the board
A great start for India, as KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, provide an opening partnership of 140 Runs. However, Rohit Sharma departs after a fine inning of 74 Runs (off 47 balls). India was 140/1 (14.4 overs).
Then KL Rahul is dismissed at 69 (off 48 balls), at that stage, India was at 147/2 in 16.3 overs.
In the end, a 63 Run Stand between Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya puts a mammoth total of 210/2 on board for India. Rishabh Pant’s 27* (off 13 balls) and Hardik Pandya’s 35*(off 13 balls) remained unbeaten. This is the highest total score in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
2nd Innings – Afghanistan’s Target is 211 Runs
Afghanistan lost 2 Wickets early on, as both openers Mohammad Shahzad and Hazratullah Zazai were back in the pavilion, with that they were 13/2 (3.1 overs).
Then 3 Wickets fall in quick succession as Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Gulbadin Naib and Najibullah Zadran depart. Afghanistan was 69/5 in 11.5 overs.
After that, there was a 57 Run Stand between Captain Mohammad Nabi and Karim Janat.
However, Mohammed Shami then picked 2 Wickets in an over and stopped this partnership, dismissing Mohammad Nabi & Rashid Khan. Then they were 127/7 in 18.3 overs. Meanwhile, Afghanistan finished their innings at 144/7 (20 overs).
As a result, India won the match by 66 Runs. Hence, the Player of the Match was awarded to Rohit Sharma – 74 Runs (off 47 balls).
