Ranjan Madugalle is the Chief Referee of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. He is one of four former international cricket players who will be match referees for the eighth T20 World Cup.

Madugalle was a talented right-handed batsman whose career record may not accurately reflect his ability. In Sri Lanka’s first-ever test match, which was played against England in 1981–1982, he made his debut.
Ranjan Madugalle Cricket Career
Madugalle represented Sri Lanka from 1979 to 1988 in ODIs, ICC and other tournaments. He was in Sri Lanka’s debut Test team in 1982. Madugalle only had one fifty in 25 ODI innings.
Madugalle failed to get into form and was often benched. He made his ODI debut against India on June 16, 1979. Ranjan Madugalle has also captained Sri Lanka. In 1988, he became captain. 17 February 1982 was his test debut. He played 21 tests, 63 ODIs, 81 FC, and 82 LA games.
Ranjan Madugalle As a Referee
In 1993, he was recruited to referee matches for the International Cricket Council (ICC), and in 2001, he was promoted to become the organization’s first chief referee. His laid-back demeanour and attractive attitude are just a front for someone who has a well-deserved reputation for being a severe authority figure.
Ranjan Madugalle set a record by officiating 300+ ODIs. He’s refereed the most ODIs. The first referee to officiate 100+ tests He’s the only referee to have worked 100 and 150 tests. He’s refereed the most test matches.
He refereed most of the T20I matches. Ranjan Madugalle is the only match referee to have worked 500 or 550 international cricket matches. The 2019 Cricket World Cup final referee was Ranjan Madugalle. In this T20 World Cup 2022, Ranjan has been chosen to be a strong part of the team and participate in being the Referee for the matches that are going in. His decision-making capabilities do not require a doubt and he is one of the best choices until now.
