James Anderson made his official debut for the England cricket team in 2002 and has continued to be a mainstay in the English squad ever since.

With over two decades of experience and a terrific record of 700 dismissals under his name, James Anderson has proved his mettle with top-notch precision and unwavering consistency against opponents’ teams. All along these years, James Anderson has proven to be an extremely reliable cornerstone for England’s cricket squad, assisting them in breaking partnerships and picking up the most crucial wickets under high-pressure and intense situations on the field. James Anderson is all fueled up to play his career’s final 188th test match against the West Indies at the Lords on July 10, 2024.

Let’s take a look at the top five batsmen who have been dismissed by James Anderson the most in Test cricket.

  • Cheteshwar Pujara: 12 Wickets

With a total of twelve test dismissals, England’s James Anderson proved to be a nightmare for India’s Cheteshwar Arvind Pujara in the Test cricket format. Anderson’s excellent command of the ball and his formidable ability to flawlessly swing the ball both ways often proved to be a major crisis for the right-handed Indian batsman. A series of destructive out-swingers from James Anderson often compelled Pujara to step ahead and play outside the off stump, which often proved fatal for the batsman.

During India’s tour of England in 2014, James Anderson dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara with a powerful out-swinger that annihilated Pujara’s batting spell at Trent Bridge. Additionally, the “Pujara vs Anderson” rivalry has witnessed many more such sensational dismissals, including the “LBW” dismissal of Pujara by Anderson at Edgbaston in the 2018 test series of India against England.

  • Peter Siddle: 11 Wickets

Former Australian cricketer, Peter Matthew Siddle kick-started his Test cricket career in 2008 and played for twelve long years before deciding to bid farewell to the highly competitive format in 2019. All along his test cricket career, the Australian cricketer, Peter Siddle faced the fierce bowling attack from England’s spin bowler James Anderson quite a lot of times. He couldn’t sustain for a long time on the field against the formidable English bowler. James Anderson dismissed Siddle for a total of eleven times in the Test format.

Out of all these eleven dismissals, Siddle’s second test wicket that came on home soil turned out to be the most sensational one. Peter Siddons faced 155 deliveries from England’s James Anderson in his test career and was dismissed for a total of eleven times, speaking volumes about Anderson’s annihilating bowling spell against the Aussies.

  • David Warner: 10 Wickets

Former test vice-captain and international cricketer from Australia, David Andrew Warner, faced the wrath of England’s pace wizard, James Anderson, for a major part of his test cricket career. In his test cricket career that spanned for over a decade, Australia’s David Warner faced 735 deliveries from James Anderson and lost his wicket for a total of ten times.

James Anderson’s ability to effortlessly swing and seam the ball both ways and his precision with the new ball on the field caused a lot of trouble for Australia’s legendary cricketer, David Warner, in his test career. Despite his impressive batting prowess and hard-hitting abilities, David Warner couldn’t stand against England’s James Anderson’s bowling attack and was brutally dismissed by the bowler in the most crucial matches.

Sachin Tendulkar

  • Sachin Tendulkar: 9 Wickets

Even the “God of Indian Cricket”, Sachin Tendulkar, succumbed to Anderson’s annihilating bowling spell in the test cricket format. The ultimate spinner of England, James Anderson dismissed the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar a total of nine times in the test cricket format.

While the majority of bowlers were dreadful of the “master-blaster” innings and hard-hitting shots across the field from Tendulkar, Anderson continued to practice his annihilating balling exploits against Tendulkar. A classic outswinger from James Anderson during the first test match of England’s tour of India in 2008 that brutally dismissed Sachin Tendulkar still serves as a benchmark for Anderson’s bowling exploits and reverberates in the annals of test cricket.

  • Brad Haddin: 8 Wickets

Bradley James Haddin, a former Australian cricketer who has dominated the opponent teams across all three forms of international cricket including the ODIs, Tests, and T20Is, has also witnessed a tough time dealing with England’s powerhouse of the most dangerous spin deliveries, James Anderson. Brad Haddin has been dismissed by England’s James Anderson for a total of eight times in his test cricket career.

One of the most thrilling and memorable dismissals of Brad Haddin by James Anderson followed around during the fifth test of the 2013-2014 Ashes Series at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where Anderson was dismissed with a perfect in-swinger that caught Brad Haddin off guard and knocked the bails off, drawing the series to an unpredictable end.
