One Day International (ODI) cricket is a hybrid of Test and T20 cricket. During an ODI match, both the bowlers and the batters must display a variety of skill sets. The sides must play at the highest level for 50 overs in order to win the particular match because it is an endurance game. In ODI cricket, there aren’t many matches when the margins are so large that they set a record. On that particular day, one team thoroughly dominates the other. Let’s look at the top 5 one-day international win margins.

Ireland vs New Zealand (290 Runs):

The largest win margin in a single day of international cricket was set in this match. The most lopsided ODI match in history saw New Zealand thrash Ireland by 290 runs. With the help of James Marshall and Brendon McCullum, New Zealand amassed an intimidating total of 402 runs. In response, the Ireland squad was bowled out for just 112 runs, enabling New Zealand to win by a record-breaking 290 runs.

Afghanistan vs Australia (275 Runs):

Australia thoroughly thrashed the Afghan team in this 2015 encounter, which took place. On that particular day, David Warner was unrelenting and pounded the Afghan bowlers into the ground, scoring a whopping 178 runs, including 19 fours. In addition to Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell’s stellar performances, Afghanistan’s batsmen were unable to surpass David Warner’s score and were bowled out for 142 runs, giving the Australians a commanding 275-run victory.

Zimbabwe vs South Africa (272 Runs):

In this 2010 match, South Africa completely destroyed the Zimbabwean team. JP Duminy and AB De Villiers scored hundreds while South Africa was batting first, scoring 399 runs in their first innings. Zimbabwe could only generate 127 runs in response, and South Africa won the game by a margin of 272 runs.

Sri Lanka vs South Africa (258 Runs):

This is a unique match since a contest with such a large win margin between two elite teams only occurs once per 100 games. When South Africa batted first in this match in 2012, they only scored 301 runs. It is somewhat puzzling that Sri Lanka lost by 258 runs when chasing such a modest total since they were bowled out for only 43 runs. One of those games that Sri Lanka would have loved to forget the day after it took place.

Bermuda vs India (257 Runs):

The Indian side broke the 400-run mark for the first time in ODI cricket during one of the most memorable matches of the year 2007. When India batted first against Bermuda, Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag gave the team a flying start. Sehwag went on to score a brilliant century, and Yuvraj Singh and Sachin Tendulkar both scored outstanding half-centuries to lead India to a mammoth total of 413 runs. Bermuda’s score of 156 runs in response made it one of the most famous days in Indian cricket history as India went on to win the match by 257 runs.
