Virat Kohli, India’s cricketing superstar, has made his mark in cricket history by scoring the fastest to 16000 runs in list A cricket in the least number of matches.

During the game against Andhra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament, Kohli broke the previous record held by cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. Rohit Sharma was also in the headlines, equaling another long-standing record with his own cricketing century in the tournament.

Record for most sixes in an inning

Virat Kohli achieved the milestone of 16,000 in List A cricket in 330 innings, thus making him the fastest person to do this. This achievement came in Mumbai vs. Andhra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bengaluru. With this achievement, he broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar, who had achieved it in 391 innings.

Tendulkar has scored 16,000 runs in addition to the record that has seen him amass 21,999 runs from 538 innings in 551 List A matches. Kohli, on the other hand, has scored 14,557 runs from 296 ODIs and is still setting new records. His record not only verifies his dominance in limited-overs cricket but also repositions him among the greats of all time.

Fastest to 16000 Runs in List A Cricket

Kohli’s latest record is only adding to his list of accomplishments, such as being the quickest to 1,000 runs in List A cricket after reaching 10,000. He is now the quickest to reach 16,000 in List A cricket, something that only Tendulkar, Greenidge, Ricky Ponting, or Viv Richards would even come close to attaining.

List of the top 5 fastest players to reach 16,000 List A runs:

Virat Kohli – 330 innings

Sachin Tendulkar – 391 innings

Gordon Greenidge – 422 innings

Ricky Ponting – 430 innings

Graham Gooch & Viv Richards – 435 innings

Rohit Sharma Enters Exclusive List with a Century

Though Kohli’s achievement is creating buzz, Rohit Sharma has also entered the record books. The Mumbai cricketer smashed 155 off only 94 deliveries against Sikkim in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, taking his overall tally of 150+ scores in the List A format to an commendable nine, equaling the feat of Australian cricketer David Warner. Rohit hammered 18 fours and nine sixes to guide Mumbai to an eight-wicket win.

Rohit was 38 years and 238 days old, the second oldest after Anustup Majumdar, who scored a century at 39. This goes on to show that Rohit is so skilled and long-lived that it refutes claims that he is losing form. His innings is a clear reflection that he is one of the finest players.

A Comeback to Domestic Cricket

Both Kohli and Rohit are making an important comeback in domestic 50-over cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It has been quite some time since Kohli last played this prestigious event, in the 2009-2010 season, and Rohit last played in the 2017-2018 season.

These comebacks also follow important performances in international cricket. Kohli has been awarded the Player of the Series in the ODI series against South Africa, having scored two centuries and an unbeaten 50.

Rohit too showed glimpses of his old self hitting a magnificent ton in Australia, followed by two fifties in three matches against South Africa. It is a definitive indication that both players are preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Road to the 2027 ODI World Cup As former Test and T20 International players, Kohli and Rohit, being ODI players currently with a target towards ODI World Cup 2027, look ready for the ICC event with both players being very much in form.

The presence of both cricketers in top form is a promising start for India during the next World Cup competition. The duo is also ready for the event after their outstanding performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
