Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has finally approved Eshan Malinga to play in the upcoming IPL 2026, which is a huge relief to his team. The 25-year-old right-arm bowler is expected to join his team on March 24, according to the team officials. Eshan Malinga’s addition to the team is a positive move ahead of the tournament’s commencement on March 28.
Kamindu Mendis Also Gets Approval
Like Eshan Malinga, another Sri Lankan all-rounder, Kamindu Mendis, has also been given his No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in the upcoming tournament. The 27-year-old left-handed batter is expected to accompany Eshan Malinga to India.
Hasaranga and Pathirana Face Delays
Still, there is some ambiguity regarding Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana. Both players were absent for their scheduled fitness tests. Therefore, their arrival for IPL 2026 is likely to be delayed.
It is stated that Matheesha Pathirana, who is considered a valuable purchase for his franchise, is likely to miss some matches of the season due to his fitness issues. His franchise is willing to wait for his recovery rather than replacing him. There is still no official confirmation regarding Hasaranga’s availability.
Nuwan Thushara’s Status Unclear
The status of Nuwan Thushara’s participation is also unclear. The SLC stated that the NOC of Nuwan Thushara will be subject to the outcome of the physical performance test. So far, there are no announcements regarding the final status of Nuwan Thushara’s NOC.
Other Sri Lankan Players Cleared for the Tournament
In contrast, several other Sri Lankan players have already been cleared to play in the upcoming IPL 2026. These players are Dushmantha Chameera, Pathum Nissanka, and Dasun Shanaka.
