Shaan Masood-led Pakistan Test team continued their disappointing form in Test cricket after a 78-run defeat against Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at the Sher-E-Bangla International Stadium in Dhaka.

Pakistan registers an unwanted record

With the emphatic victory, the Bangladesh cricket team scripted history by securing a 2-0 series sweep over Pakistan. The defeat also saw Pakistan register an unwanted record as they became the first team ever to suffer a Test series whitewash against Bangladesh, both at home and away.

It also marked the first occasion Bangladesh have completed a home Test whitewash against a side ranked above them in the ICC Test standings.

Litton Das and Mustafiqur Rahman showcased impressive batting

After choosing to bowl first, Pakistan dominated the early stages with a superb bowling display, reducing Bangladesh to 116/6. However, a fighting and aggressive century from Litton Das, who scored 126, helped Bangladesh recover and post 278. Pakistan, in reply, was bowled out for 232, conceding a crucial first-innings lead.

Bangladesh carried the momentum and posted a mammoth 390. Mustafiqur Rahman anchored the innings with a masterful 137, supported by an impressive 69 from Litton Das, which guided their total to 437.

Pakistan showed some positives as Babar Azam (47 off 52), Shan Masood (71 off 116), Salman Ali Agha (71 off 102) and Mohammad Rizwan (94 off 166) guided the Men in Green to 358, but it wasn’t enough for a win. However, Taijul Islam led Bangladesh’s bowling attack and returned with figure of 6/120 to dismantle the tail and bowl the visitors out for 358.

Shan Masood on series defeat to Bangladesh

With Pakistan sitting at the ninth spot on the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 table, Shan Masood opened up aboout the humialiting defeat.

“Look, I think in Test cricket you’re going to be punished for any mistake you make,” Shan Masood said after the loss. “It’s unforgiving and Test cricket is always played by the best of the best. You’re not going to get any easy games and you really have to grind results out.”

“I think that’s what we need to do as a side. We’ve put ourselves into positions. I can only count a couple of Test matches where we’ve been completely outplayed, but in every other Test match we’ve been in positions where we didn’t finish well, either with the ball or in the field. That’s something you have to do consistently over five days and that’s the learning this side really needs to take.”
