Sunrisers Hyderabad (stylised as SunRisers Hyderabad, abbreviated SRH) are an Indian Premier League franchise cricket team based in Hyderabad, Telangana (IPL). The franchise was formed in 2012 after the IPL cancelled the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers. It is owned by Kalanithi Maran of the SUN Group. Brian Lara is the team’s current coach. The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, which has a capacity of 55,000, is their principal home venue.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has long been regarded as the IPL’s underdog. They are well-known for investing more in the bowling attack than in the batting. They may not have the largest fan base, but no cricket enthusiast despises them.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Team History
Sunrisers Hyderabad took over the Deccan Chargers in 2012 and made their debut in 2013. Sun TV Network took over the franchise after the Deccan Chronicle went bankrupt. On December 18, 2012, the squad was announced in Chennai. The team is owned by Sun TV Network, which won the auction with a five-year deal at Rs 85.05 crore (US$11 million) a week after the Chargers were dissolved owing to long-term financial concerns.
The squad made their debut IPL appearance in 2013, reaching the playoffs and eventually finishing fourth. The Sunrisers won their first IPL title in 2016, defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final by 8 runs. Since 2016, the team has qualified for the tournament’s play-off stage in every season. In 2018, the squad reached the finals of the Indian Premier League, but lost to Chennai Super Kings. The squad is regarded as one of the best bowling teams in the country, with a reputation for being able to defend low totals. David Warner leads the team in run scoring, having earned the Orange Cap three times in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the wicket-takers’ chart, having won the Purple Cap twice, in 2016 and 2017. According to Brand Finance, the COVID-19 epidemic harmed the Sunrisers Hyderabad brand value, which fell 4% to US$57.4 million in 2020 while the total brand value of the IPL fell to US$4.4 billion.

From Chargers to Sunrisers
Hyderabad had a franchisee called the ‘Deccan Chargers’ till 2012. Deccan Chronicles declared bankruptcy, and the franchisee was purchased by Sun TV Network for Rs. 85.05 crores.
They debuted the logo and announced the team management, which includes Kris Srikkanth, Tom Moody, and V. V. S. Laxman, on December 20, 2012.
Early years of the Sunrisers
Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara captained the team for the first nine matches before being replaced by Cameron White. They finished fourth in the competition.
They finished sixth in 2014 and 2015, although there were times when many people thought this team could go far. David Warner, who won the Orange Cap in 2015, was named captain by team management.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s First Title
‘A batsman can win a game for you, but bowlers can win a tournament for you,’ says the coach. SRH has consistently backed up the statement.
SRH had had the finest bowling squad from their IPL debut, and it paid off quickly, as they won the tournament solely on the strength of their bowlers in 2016. They had Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mustafizur Rahman, Bipul Sharma, Ben Cutting, and Karn Sharma, all of whom not only limited the runs but also got wickets.
In that season, chasing even a modest score against SRH was a difficult feat. SRH hasn’t had an out superstar hitter who can tonk the ball regularly season after season. This weakness was compensated for by nimble and lethal bowling, which earned SRH its first title.
Consistent Performance and Revelation of Rashid Khan
They have always been in the Playoffs since 2016, and they were in the 2018 season’s Final when they were defeated by CSK in their comeback season.
SRH has always sought to assemble the most potent bowling squad possible. In this effort, they acquired Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who has subsequently proven to be a vital asset.
Even four years after his IPL debut, batsmen find it difficult to pick him. He has evolved into a consistent batter, scoring some quick runs down the batting order in addition to top-class bowling. He is an excellent fielder too.
