It is often said bowlers win a team tournament. The shortest format of the game can be very tough for the bowlers. The Indian Premier League is about to kick off its 16th season on 31st March. IPL has always had batters breaking records and scoring big hundreds. Here is the cost of every wicket taken by these bowlers in the previous IPL.
Yuzvendra Chahal was the purple cap winner and played an important role in the Rajasthan Royals’ journey to the finals in IPL 2022. Chahal along with Ravichandran Ashwin handled the spin department for the Royals. Chahal took 27 wickets in 17 games for the runner-ups. In the 2022 auction, the former RCB spinner was bought by the Royals for just INR 6.5 crores. Every wicket from Chahal cost the Royals around INR 24 lakhs.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Wanindu Hasaranga became the most expensive bowler as Deepak Chahar who was bought by CSK for 14 crores ended up missing last year’s IPL. Hasaranga was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 10.75 crores. Hasaranga was bought by RCB as a replacement for the Indian leg spinner Chahal. Hasaranga was the leading wicket-taker for RCB and the second-highest wicket-taker of the league as he took 26 wickets in 16 games. Hasaranga’s every wicket cost RCB just a little above INR 41 lakhs.
Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel was bought again by RCB due to his heroics in IPL 2021. The 2021 purple cap winner was acquired by RCB in IPL 2022 for 10.75 crores. Last season Patel was not quite able to replicate his performances. In IPL 2022 Harshal took 19 wickets. His every wicket cost RCB INR 56.5 Lakhs. RCB will expect better returns from him this time around.
Shardul Thakur was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 10.75 crores. In IPL 2022 he managed to take only 15 wickets in 14 matches. His economy was also a staggering 9.78 RPO. This year Thakur will be joining the Knight Riders. His every wicket cost DC a whopping amount of more than INR 71.6 Lakhs.
Kagiso Rabada was the leading wicket-taker for Punjab Kings in IPL 2022. The South-African pacer was sold to PBKS for INR 9.25 crores. The former DC player took 23 wickets at an average of 17.65. Rabada’s every wicket cost PBKS around INR 40 lakhs.
Lockie Ferguson
Lockie Ferguson was bought by the winners Gujarat Titans. He was bought for INR 10 crores. The speedster from New Zealand managed to take only 12 wickets. His every wicket cost GT more than INR 83 lakhs.
Umran Malik was retained by the Sun Risers Hyderabad for just INR 4 crores. He repaid the faith shown in him as the Kashmiri pacer had everyone at the edge of their seats. He managed to take 22 wickets and was one of the very few positives from the SRH side. Malik’s every wicket cost to SRH was a meager amount of around INR 18 Lakhs.
Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna was one of the most expensive Indian fast bowlers of IPL 2022. Krishna was bought by RR for INR 10 crores. He took 19 wickets for the Royals in 17 matches. Each wicket from Krishna cost the Royals around INR 52 lakhs.
Kuldeep Yadav was released by Kolkata Knight Riders after warming the bench for few seasons and was bought by the Delhi Capitals for just INR 2 crores. He found instant success with the ball for his new team as he took 21 wickets in just 14 matches taking two 4-wicket hauls. His every cost for DC came out to be just INR 9.5 lakhs.
Jasprit Bumrah was retained by the Mumbai Indians for INR 12 crores. Bumrah was the lone warrior for the Mumbai Indian in an otherwise pretty disappointing attack. The Indian star managed to take 15 wickets and his per wicket cost for MI was INR 80 lakhs.
