Gunther could be a major obstacle in WWE World Heavyweight Title fight – A look at Goldberg’s possible return
“The Ring General” Gunther’s defeat at the hands of Jey Uso during WrestleMania shocked the WWE Universe. Gunther’s Comeback Victory at Backlash 2025
Just after the WrestleMania 41 Gunther took his anger out on Michael Cole. When Pat McAfee intervened, he too had to face Gunther’s rage. This culminated in a singles match at WWE Backlash 2025, where Gunther again put McAfee in a sleeper hold. After this win, he once again showed that he never suffers back-to-back losses in WWE.
New challenge for the title on Monday Night Raw
On the May 12 episode of Monday Night Raw, Gunther made his next goal clear – the World Heavyweight Championship. He directly confronted Jey Uso and announced:
“The winner out of you and Logan will have the honour of handing the World Heavyweight Championship over to it’s rightful owner, ME!”
He also confirmed when and where the title match will take place:
“In one month from now on June 9th in Phoenix, Arizona, I will challenge the winner out of you and Logan for the World Heavyweight Championship.”
This match will take place on the episode of Monday Night Raw after Money in the Bank 2025, where Gunther will try his best to reclaim the title.
Goldberg’s possible return could change the game
WWE and WCW legend Bill Goldberg has confirmed that he will officially retire in 2025. He is training for the final match of his career, which is expected to take place before the end of the year. According to a report by Fightful Select, his opponent could be Gunther.
Although nothing is confirmed as of now, a Goldberg vs Gunther match is being seriously considered, and the most suitable setup for this could be Monday Night Raw on June 9. This could be the time when Goldberg returns and spoils Gunther’s title match.
Will Goldberg become G’s title protector for Reigns?
If Goldberg interferes, this will not only set up their final WWE feud but will also give him another chance to retain his title. Through this angle, WWE can create a mega-match for Night of Champions or SummerSlam 2025 – Goldberg vs Gunther.
