Every now and then, even the most seasoned hitters experience a day when nothing goes their way. These batters would hate themselves while getting out hit-wicket, which is unquestionably the most embarrassing way to end an innings in a cricket match. Here are 5 famous Indian hit-wickets instances.
Sachin Tendulkar vs Australia in 2008
Sachin Tendulkar became the third ODI player to get out by a hit wicket in the opening game of the tri-series in 2008. The incident happened in the Indian batting innings’ seventh over. The fast delivery from Brett Lee put Sachin Tendulkar on guard. Tendulkar attempted to move the delivery to the on-side but unintentionally made contact with stumps with his foot.
Dilip Vengsarkar vs Australia in 1977
Dilip Vengsarkar had the most improbable hit-wicket in the first Test match in Brisbane in 1977, when he ducked a bouncer but the cap he was wearing flew off his head and onto the bails, dislodging them. At the time, Vengsarkar was touring Australia at the beginning of his career. Vengsarkar had to turn around and walk back, his head down in humiliation and shock.
Virat Kohli vs England in 2011
Kohli, one of just two cricketers from India to be out by a hit-wicket in both Tests and ODIs, was in fine form against England in Cardiff in 2011 when he eventually ended his own innings. He was also having a good run, scoring 107 runs off just 93 deliveries. However, Kohli’s outstanding performance came to an end when he unintentionally touched the stumps with his foot while playing a Graeme Swann delivery. As a result, one bail just slipped off.
KL Rahul vs Sri Lanka in 2018
During the fourth Twenty20 International of the Nidahas Trophy between Sri Lanka and India at R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo, KL Rahul became the first Indian batsman to be removed hit-wicket in the shortest format of the game.
Virat Kohli vs England in 2016
Another player released through this unusual procedure was Virat Kohli, the former captain of India. It occurred during the opening Test between England and India in Rajkot in 2016. Virat Kohli seemed to be in excellent shape to make some runs, but the strange way he was out of the game knocked him down. In the 120th over of India’s first innings, Virat Kohli, who was on forty at the time, blasted a short Adil Rashid delivery towards the short mid-wicket region. He touched the stumps with his foot, though, and the bails came loose.
