With Ghosh, Smriti Mandhana proved instrumental in India’s comfortable victory. The skilled opener scored a well-timed 77 runs off 38 balls, including a number of boundaries that really underlined her class and flair. Mandhana’s half-century laid the base for India’s healthy total, and her partnership with Ghosh put the team in a commanding position as India headed into the West Indies chase.

Henry raised the hope for the West Indies by displaying aggression. She hit a four and two sixes one after another off consecutive Deepti Sharma’s bowling in the 14th over. Renuka Singh, however, gave a big blow to West Indies by getting Henry caught by Raghavi Bisht in the very next over. West Indies needed 85 runs in the last five overs but the team remained far away from the target.

Earlier, after failing to score enough in the second T20, India scored at the rate of almost 10 runs per over from the start in the decisive match. The team lost the wicket of Uma Chhetri (00) in the first over itself, who was caught by Chinelle Henry (one wicket for 14 runs). Smriti along with Jemima Rodrigues (39 runs in 28 balls, four fours) made the innings strong by sharing 98 runs in 55 balls for the second wicket.

Jemima also played some attractive shots after a slow start. Afy Fletcher (one wicket for 25 runs) broke this partnership by trapping Jemima LBW. Batting at number four, Raghavi Bisht (31 not out in 22 balls, two fours, one six) made a mark in her second T20 international match. She hit her first international boundary in the form of a six on Karishma Ramharak and scored runs on both sides of the wicket.

Smriti, however, missed out on a century once again. She was caught by Henry off Deandra Dottin’s (1 wicket for 54 runs) bowling in the 15th over. India then sent aggressive batsman Richa to bat before Deepti Sharma and she played a key role in taking the team’s score past 200 runs and entertained more than 40 thousand spectators present at the DY Patil Stadium.
