A brilliant century from Ayaan Misbah led the UAE Under-19 team towards a crucial victory over Malaysia in the Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup to keep their semi-final hopes well and truly alive. In a match which was reduced to 47 overs due to a damp outfield, the UAE defeated Malaysia Under-19s by 78 runs to strengthen their position in the group.
UAE vs MAL became the decider with one match remaining, as UAE will qualify for the semis if they can create an upset against Pakistan in their final group game.
Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup: UAE Posts Strong Total of 298
Batting first, UAE piled up an imposing 298 runs, mainly courtesy of Misbah’s career-best knock.
Batting Key Contributions
Ayaan Misbah: 163 off 153 balls (9 fours, 7 sixes)
Muhammad Rayan: 48
Yayin Kiran Rai (captain): 44
Misbah and Rai provided the perfect beginning with an 87-run opening stand, after which Misbah put on 98 runs for the second wicket with Rayan, to take complete control of the innings.
Innings of Ayaan Misbah-Patience Meets Power
Misbah’s knock was a story of two vividly contrasting phases. First phase: 43 runs off 77 balls, stability being key and Second phase: 120 off 76 balls, full of explosive stroke play. Once set, Misbah belted eight fours and six sixes, transforming what had been a steady innings into a match-defining performance.
Late Wobble in UAE Innings
Though Misbah accelerated, UAE lost momentum towards the end. Four wickets fell for a measly 15 runs in the last 31 balls. Star for Malaysia was Muhammad Akram, who picked up 3 wickets in the closing overs of the game. Even so, UAE’s total proved well beyond Malaysia’s reach.
Malaysia’s Chase Falls Short
Chasing 299, Malaysia had a bad start as they struggled to build partnerships in the early part. The Malaysian innings never gained momentum, as the wickets kept tumbling.
Malaysia Batting Highlights
Muhammad Aalif scored the top with 54. Highest partnership of 54 runs for the sixth wicket, which came too late to shift the momentum. After Aalif’s dismissal, Malaysia scored a paltry nine runs in the subsequent 6.1 overs, ending any possibility of a comeback.
UAE Bowlers Confirm Victory
UAE’s bowlers had kept matters disciplined during the chase, until the attack was led by Muhammad Bazil Asim 3 wickets. Malaysia finished at 220 for 9, well short of the target.
