Nat Sciver-Brunt Out Of Third IND vs ENG T20I

5 Min Read

Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of the third IND vs ENG T20 match because of a groin injury, inflicting a major setback to England’s chances of mounting a comeback in the five-match series. The third T20I on Friday at the Kia Oval becomes even more important with India already leading 2-0.

Sciver-Brunt sustained the injury during England’s 24-run defeat in the second T20I match at Bristol. Her availability for the rest of the games in the series is questionable as she gets medical scans done to assess the degree of the injury.

Tammy Beaumont to Captain England for the First Time

Without Nat Sciver-Brunt, veteran batter Tammy Beaumont will lead England for the first time in her international career. Beaumont, who has played 247 times for England across all formats, including 106 T20Is, will now head the team in a high-pressure situation.

Even though Sophia Dunkley, the named vice-captain, stepped in for a short while when Sciver-Brunt walked off the field during the second T20I, management decided to choose Beaumont’s experience instead to lead England through the rest of the IND vs ENG T20 series.

Beaumont: “Proud to Lead, Ready for the Battle”

Speaking ahead of her captaincy debut, Beaumont remarked:

“It’s a genuine honor and pride to wear the captain’s armband tomorrow, although in trying situations. Charlotte [Edwards, team manager] requested a chat with me this morning, and immediately I said, ‘Yep, thank you very much, I’ll have a good go.’ I suppose we do require a bit of fight to emerge in this series, and I’m most likely someone who enjoys getting in a scrap, so can see why.”

Giving an update on Nat Sciver-Brunt’s injury, Beaumont stated:

That’s something we don’t know yet. Our medical staff are doing everything they can. She’s got a scan today, so we’ll be more in the know. It’s in the balance for Manchester. Whether it’s a one-game or a couple of games, I’ll put my hand up for the team and will welcome Nat back with open arms when she’s fit.

Sciver-Brunt has been managing her workload with caution and has not bowled during the series until now. In spite of the issues related to injury, she is still a key player for the England team.

Sciver-Brunt’s Contribution to the IND vs ENG T20I Series

Before being rested, Nat Sciver-Brunt batted a lone hand in the first T20I with a stunning 66 from 42 balls, shining like a beacon amidst an otherwise disappointing team score of 113. She will be sorely missed, given that she has been England’s most consistent batswoman of 2024.

Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 2024 Statistics:

Runs: 637

Average: 39.81

Strike Rate: 134

Fifties: 5 in 22 innings

Her performance has made her England’s top run-scorer in the T20Is this year, again emphasizing the magnitude of the loss for the visitors.
