Seasoned Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin fined 30% of his match fee for a verbal outburst during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 match between Dindigul Dragons and Tiruppur Tamizhans on June 8 at Coimbatore’s Sri Ramakrishna College Ground.

Ashwin Fined for Dissent and Use of Equipment

Ashwin’s sanctioned event came in the aftermath of the former Indian all-rounder being ruled LBW by R. Sai Kishore, after replays indicated the ball seemed to pitch well outside leg stump. With no reviews remaining, having exhausted both previously for wide-ball referrals, Ashwin was visibly frustrated on the ground.

By a TNPL official, a post-match hearing before match referee Arjun Kripal Singh ended with Ashwin being:

Fined 10% of his match fee for dissent

Fined 20% of his match fee for equipment misuse

“Ashwin has accepted the penalty,” said the official. He was not available for comment.

Viral Outburst on Video

The episode went viral on social media since fans were split between the umpire’s call and Ashwin’s response. The video clip is of Ashwin protesting against umpire Kritika and then letting off steam by banging his pads with his bat and discarding his gloves after walking off.
