Virat Kohli

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli holds the record for the leading run-scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup so far. Kohli has scored 1141 runs in 27 matches at an astonishing average of 81.50 and a strike rate of 131.3. Kohli has been the backbone of India, especially since the 2012 T20 World Cup, and has played a few memorable innings against Australia and Pakistan in the 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cup respectively. In addition, his batting exploits Virat Kohli is the only Indian bowler to claim the last wicket picked by India in the semi-final of a T20 World Cup having done so against the West Indies during the 2016 World Cup.

Mahela Jayawardene

The former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene is second on the list of batters with the most runs in the T20 World Cup with 1016 runs in 31 matches. Jayawardene was a vital part of Sri Lanka’s title-winning campaign in 2014 when the Lankan Lions defeated India in the final when the World Cup was held in Bangladesh. The right-hander also played a vital part in his team’s successful run during the 2009 and 2012 T20 World Cup campaigns as Sri Lanka made it to the final on both occasions.

Chris Gayle

Gayle has scored 965 runs in the 31 innings that he has batted at a strike rate of 142.75 and an average of 34.46 including two centuries and seven half centuries with his highest score being 117 which the batter made against South Africa in the inaugural match of the 2007 T20 World Cup held in South Africa making him the third highest run-scorer in the history of T20 World Cup. He also tops the list of batters with the most sixes with 63 sixes registered to his name.

Rohit Sharma

The present Indian captain has featured in 39 World Cup games so far and has scored 963 runs in 36 innings at an average and strike rate of 34.39 and 127.88 respectively with a highest score of 79 as a result of which he takes the fourth spot in the list of batters with most runs in T20 World Cup. Rohit will be playing his second T20 World Cup as captain during the 2024 T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the USA and West Indies in June.

Tillakaratne Dilshan

The former Sri Lankan opener has scored 897 runs in 35 matches. Like Jayawardene, Dilshan was instrumental in Sri Lanka’s successful run in the global event in 2014 which the island nation won after defeating India in the final. Dilshan was an integral part of the core of experienced players comprising the likes of Kumar Sangakkara Jayawardene and captain Lasith Malinga.
