While chasing the role of finisher or the middle order gets even more difficult as the batter needs to keep a hold of their nerves to get his team over the line. Here are some of the players that remained not out most number of times in ODI cricket.
It does not come as a surprise that the captain cool MS Dhoni has the most number of not outs. The former Indian skipper is arguably the best finisher in the format’s history. Dhoni has 84 not outs ODI cricket out of these 51 came while chasing. In these 51 games Dhoni got the Indian team the win on 47 occasions while two games ended as a tie and just two games ended in a defeat. It speaks great volume of MS Dhoni’s ability as a finisher while chasing the score. MS Dhoni ended his career with 10 centuries and 73 half centuries amassing over 10,500 runs.
Shaun Pollock finds himself at the second spot with 72 not outs. The former speedster from South Africa was more than handy with the bat in hand as well. Having batted at number 7 and 8 Pollock scored some vital runs down the order. Pollock has 14 half centuries as well as a century to his name. Pollock scored 3519 runs at an average of 26.46.
Chaminda Vaas
Chaminda Vaas is joint second on this list with 72 not outs as well. The left arm seamer from Sri Lanka mostly batted at number 10 and 11 for Sri Lanka.
Before MS Dhoni came along with his helicopter shots it was Australian southpaw middle order batsman who used to finish games in style. Michael Bevan with 67 not outs takes the number 4 spot in this list. Bevan has 46 half centuries and 6 centuries with a batting average of 53.17.
