IPL 2026 Set to Be Postponed?

4 Min Read

The upcoming edition of IPL might get postponed, according to various reports, which is why there is a delay in the announcement of the schedule, with a little over 15 days to go for the nineteenth season of the league.

The Schedule

IPL 2026 is set to kick off on March 28, which is already two days after the originally decided date of March 26; that particular delay was believed to be due to the state elections. However, the tournament can be delayed further due to a couple of reasons.

The Reasons

One of the reasons that is being speculated is the war involving USA, Israel and Iran, which has had a negative impact on various sectors around the globe, including theaviation sector, with a number of flights getting cancelled.

The effect of the war on the aviation sector was visible in the T20 World Cup, with teams having to extend their stay in India due to the situation, which is changing with every passing day.

The Changes

The unprecedented times that people all over the world find themselves in have led to people involved in the organisation of various tournaments, including the globe, scratching their heads for possible solutions.

The Shortage

To add to that, if reports in various publications are to be believed, IPL 2026 might get postponed due to the shortage of LPG gas.

The Order

On Monday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued an order according to which priority is being given to supplying LPG to domestic and non-essential domestic sectors.

Talking on the issue, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said to New Indian Express, “We are reviewing the development. Since this is an evolving situation, nothing can be said as of now. But given the requirement of the situation, we will take a call accordingly.”

The Speculations

Amidst the uncertainty over the beginning of the upcoming season of the IPL, neither the BCCI nor the IPL governing council has made any official statement. The only person with authority who has interacted with the media on the current situation happens to be IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.

The Way Forward

The BCCI and IPL governing council is running out of time with respect to announcing theschedule for the next season of IPL which is for now set to begin on March 28 but will have to take a call sooner then later because a lot of preparations especially logistically will have to be done to get the tournament started which looks a herculean task looking at the current situation in different part of the word particularly in the middle east which is a major cente of cricket both financially and logistically.
