Illingworth, a four-time ICC Umpire of the Year, also officiated in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup in India and the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Americas.
He was the umpire in the group stage match between India and New Zealand, where India won by 44 runs.
India reached the final after defeating Australia by four wickets in Dubai, while New Zealand advanced by beating South Africa by 50 runs in the other semifinal.

What happened the last time India and New Zealand faced off in a Champions Trophy Final?
India and New Zealand had previously met in the final of the 2000 edition (then called the ICC KnockOut) in Nairobi, Kenya. India reached the final by beating South Africa by 95 runs, while New Zealand defeated Pakistan by four wickets.
India’s captain, Sourav Ganguly, was in excellent form during the tournament. He scored 141 runs in the semi-final against South Africa and followed it up with another century, scoring 117 in the final.
